Fans Think Childish Gambino Was Friendzoned by Jhené Aiko

The claim that Childish Gambino was previously “friend zoned” by a well-known collaborator has been addressed, and fans have seemed to figure out who it was. 

In an interview with Buzzfeed, he and co-star Maya Erskine of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ were trading questions when Erskine asked:  “What is a rumor that you hate that is out that you wanna disprove right now?”

Glover replied: “There was a rumor I got friend zoned by someone once. Someone. But I didn’t get friend zoned by them. The rumor is I got friend zoned by them. I didn’t get friend zoned by them. I got other zoned.”

Many fans believed that singer Jhené Aiko was the subject of Glover’s discussion.

On X, someone wrote:  “Donald Glover holding on to Jhene Aiko is understandable. Jhene Aiko is bad as hell. I know Donald Glover deeply sighs when he looks at his wife.” Another person said: “Jhene Aiko is Donald Glover’s Rihanna,” referencing Drake’s rumored fling with the singer.

Childish Gambino and Jhené Aiko collaborated on the ‘Pink Toes’ and ‘Bed Peace’ songs in 2013. Glover also directed the music video for ‘The Pressure’ by Jhené.

Glover discussed his friendship with Aiko at that time and said: “I think she’s special. She doesn’t need anyone. Like, that’s the thing. Even if we were together, she wouldn’t really belong to me. She doesn’t belong to anything, and I would know that. And that’s the thing, I’ve never had to deal with that. She’s off in her own world.”

Aiko had already denied that she and Glover were dating and said: “We’re friends, we’re good friends. That’s all I’m going to say. We’re still getting to know each other.”

Currently, Gambino is married to Michelle White, with whom he married in 2019, and has three kids together. In 2016, Aiko wed producer Dot Da Genius, but their brief marriage ended in divorce. After that, she started dating Big Sean, and they had a kid together in 2022.

Sean and Aiko took their baby to the zoo to celebrate his first birthday in November. They shared pictures of Aiko and little Noah admiring a tortoise on Instagram Stories on November 9, 2023.

Aiko just put the words “1st birthday” in the post. Big Sean wrote: “Daddy so proud n grateful for you son! We celebratin all week! Noah’s big 1.”

While Jhené Aiko and Big Sean undoubtedly have a lot to be happy about and thankful for, they also experienced the scariest summer ever when they tried to get a restraining order from a creepy stalker. According to TMZ, the pair appeared in court in August last year to request a restraining order against 29-year-old Ian Craig Lees.

According to reports, Aiko has expressed her “fear for her life” due to Lees showing up at different functions and concerts. Lees has even broken into the Pacific Palisades home that she and Sean share with their 14-year-old daughter and infant son.

The couple’s neighborhood security team and Lees got into a fight after the break-in earlier that month. The stalker apparently got inside their Los Angeles home by slipping past security. But the judge turned down the request for a temporary restraining order.
