Conway The Machine is attempting to set the record straight after his name surfaced in an attempt to criticize Eminem in Benzino’s most recent jab at the Detroit hip-hop legend, Benzino had teased Eminem in a video released last week, saying that “Con’ left ya label” on the ‘Rap Elvis’ song.
Conway later made it clear that even if he is no longer signed to Shady Records, he still has nothing but love for Eminem on Instagram on February 7, 2024.
Conway said: “Peace! I just wanted to speak on a few things. I heard the @benzinoislegendary_ joint and I just need to clear this up for everybody. 1. I didn’t LEAVE shady records. Also I never wanted to leave the label, My contracts were simply fulfilled. 2. And most importantly, I F*CK WIT @eminem @rosenberg @mikaelheron @shadyrecords @50cent.”
He continued saying: “And I could never feel any Ill feelings towards Em and them n*ggas. They gave some 35 year old street n*ggas from Buffalo that’s been shot in the head and did jail sentences a chance and a opportunity to make it out the hood and take care of my family. So I’m forever thankful for that. So with that bein said, if you’re havin feelings or whatever towards bruh, leave me out of it please, cause I’m always gonna ride wit big bro. Love.”
Conway The Machine would need to wait almost five years after Griselda Records and Shady Records collaborated for a distribution deal in 2017 to release his first ‘God Don’t Make Mistakes’ album for the label in 2022.
‘God Don’t Make Mistakes’ is a 12-song album that goes behind the scenes, breaks through the artist’s usual dark content, and uncorks many of the themes and realities the rapper has been holding inside during his recent run. Listeners get to know Conway in a very different way when he breaks out of his on-record persona and dives into an open discussion on mental health.
Speaking with ‘The Breakfast Club’ that year about his friendship with the legendary rapper, he said: “Yeah. It was more business. I don’t want to say the wrong thing. I’m kinda careful, but it was more business, and rightfully so, that’s how our relationship started. We didn’t really have no, I guess, relationship like that. We spoke a couple times on the phone, kicked it with him a couple of times at Coachella and stuff like that, but he a good dude.”
He continued saying: “He called me, told my album was a classic, man, and he love what I’m doing. I don’t got nothing bad to say about him but you know, Ye and Hov, guys like that, they more.”
He called Eminem’s supporters “nerds and stans” in a 2019 interview with VladTV, which he eventually said he regretted. Conway talked about it in January 2022 while freestyle rapping over Kanye West’s ‘Jail’ instrumental.
He rapped:
Would you love me if you knew the old me?
Before the bag, before the Rollie
Before I signed a deal with Shady with the Rollie
Speaking of Shady, man, after my interview I did with Vlad, I felt awful
But I learned you gotta watch what you say in interviews, it could cost you
